Across six focus areas, it covers the National Quality Framework, work health and safety, relationships with children, supervision, program planning and professional conduct, and it reflects the latest regulatory reforms. Whether you’re new to the sector or looking to refresh your practice, the micro-credential sets a strong benchmark for safe, high-quality education and care. This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Department of Trade, Employment and Training’s Industry Skills Solutions program.
The OSHC Educator Micro-Credential is designed for anyone starting out in, or already working in, Outside School Hours Care. It suits new educators who want a strong foundation before or soon after they begin, as well as experienced educators and leaders who want to refresh their knowledge against current regulatory requirements. The program is relevant across all OSHC settings.

For educators working, or seeking work in Queensland: Yes. Thanks to funding from the Queensland Government through the Department of Trade, Employment and Training’s Industry Skills Solutions program, the OSHC Educator Micro-Credential is free for eligible participants. To be eligible, you must be 15 years or older, live permanently in Queensland, and be working in, or looking for work in, an OSHC role, including long day care services with OSHC rooms and family day care services caring for school-aged children.
Not based in Queensland? Educators from other states and territories are welcome to enrol. A small fee is payable upon enrolment.
The OSHC Educator Micro-Credential is self-paced and fully online, so you can learn at a time and pace that suits you. Each focus area takes around 1 hour to complete, including the readings, case studies and knowledge checks. The full micro-credential takes approximately 6 hours. You can complete the focus areas in one go or across several sessions, and your progress is saved so you can pick up where you left off.
To receive your OSHC Educator Micro-Credential certificate of completion, you’ll need to complete all six focus areas, including each knowledge check. Together, the focus areas build a complete picture of the knowledge and skills needed to work safely and confidently in OSHC, so completing them all gives you the strongest foundation for your role. You can work through them in any order, and at your own pace.
A certificate is given for each completed Focus Area, as well as an overall completion certificate if all focus areas are completed.

No. The OSHC Educator Micro-Credential is built on the national frameworks that apply to OSHC services across Australia, including the National Quality Framework, the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, and My Time, Our Place V2.0. Where requirements differ between states and territories, such as work health and safety laws, child safe requirements, educator-to-child ratios and reporting schemes, the focus areas point this out and direct you to the rules that apply where you work. This makes the program relevant for educators anywhere in Australia.
No prior knowledge or experience is required — the program has been designed to be accessible to all educators regardless of their career stage, skills or knowledge. Each focus area builds knowledge from the ground up, using plain language and practical examples.
Yes, please do! We encourage you to share the OSHC Educator Micro-Credential with your colleagues and team. Each educator needs to register and enrol with their own account. That way their progress is saved, they can complete the knowledge checks, and they receive their own certificate of completion. Services are also welcome to build the micro-credential into their induction and onboarding for new educators.
Yes. You’ll receive a certificate for each focus area you complete, so you can show your learning as you go. Once you’ve completed all six focus areas, you’ll also receive the overall OSHC Educator Micro-Credential certificate. Certificates can be downloaded from your account, and you can share them with your current or future employer as evidence of your professional learning.
The OSHC Educator Micro-Credential is a non-accredited professional learning program. It isn’t a nationally recognised qualification and doesn’t count towards educator qualification requirements under the National Quality Framework. It does give you a strong foundation in the essential knowledge and skills for working in OSHC, which can support your induction, your professional development and future study. If you go on to enrol in a formal qualification, you can talk to your training provider about whether your learning might support recognition of prior learning (RPL). That decision rests with the provider.
The OSHC Educator Micro-Credential was fully reviewed and refreshed in 2026 to reflect recent regulatory reforms. These include strengthened child safety requirements under the National Quality Framework, the introduction of mandatory National Child Safety Training, and new requirements around personal devices and the safe use of digital technologies. The content was last reviewed in November 2026. Because legislation and guidance can change at any time, each focus area links directly to official sources such as ACECQA and the relevant legislation, so you can always check the latest requirements. We recommend that you also follow your service’s current policies and procedures and check with your regulatory authority if you’re unsure.
